Tossing and turning when you have a belly isn’t ideal, it’s not even ideal when you don’t. However, when you’re pregnant, you may find yourself wrestling with the blankets, adjusting and readjusting pillows, and trying every position imaginable just to try and get some shut eye. Finding comfort isn’t easy, but the American Pregnancy Association (APA) encourages you to “SOS” (sleep on side). Furthermore, they recommend sleeping on your left side because it will increase the amount of blood and nutrients that reach the placenta and your baby. Placing a pillow between your legs will also help, and a body pillow can often be your new best friend. APA also says that if you’re having back pain, use the SOS position, and try placing a pillow under your abdomen. If you are experiencing heartburn during the night, try propping your upper body with pillows.
